Paris: Palais Garnier (Opera House) Blog Post
When we went to the Palais Garnier today we were able to
see beautiful art, statues, paintings, mirrors, chandeliers,
and more to make a magical beautiful Opera House. When
we walked in you could tell the lighting was kept low, the
entrance was somewhat plain. Sort of a beginning to a
beautiful building. As we kept walking in we noticed a
beautiful statue that showed the La Pythoe. This statue
was of a woman with a beautiful dress reaching out as she’s
sitting. I also noticed the beautiful architecture. It was
beautiful seeing the shaping and engraving of the stone, as
well as they used color and painting to create a uniform,
patterned type design in the ceilings. You can see
throughout the whole building that it is very uniform and
patterned to create a pleasing sense to the eye so that the
building makes sense to the viewer.
I think this opera house is significant because of the
significance of the time period. Like we learned it was
important for people who were not nobilities to gain a sense
of importance during this time period. I really liked learning
about how Napoleon created this opera house to help show
that people with money could be powerful and be able to rule
in France as well. I believe this was a cultural shift because of
the previous belief of only nobility being able to experience such
luxuries as the opera and of buildings so beautiful. However,
when they created things like this building and began to shift their
thinking due to the rise of Napoleon they were better able to
experience the lifestyle of Nobility without being nobility.
I believe this contributed to the significance as a cultural capital
because it made France become more progressive in its ideals.
With the shift from nobility in power to people who were controlling
the business of France it made France become more successful
because of its economy, military power, and the people who were
progressive enough to make it so new and upcoming. This was
important because Paris became the city that started everything.
It is the city that people still talk about today because of its perfume,
fashion, architecture, art, and culture that is so popular it leaves
everyone wanting to visit. This has helped to increase their
economy because of tourism and the attention that France gets.
Elease, love your thoughts in this post. This blog would be a great way to answer question six of the cities portion where it asks you why a specific place relies on its population. People come to this place to receive culture. You mentioned that the history of this place aids in the value of it. Contributes to France’s economy. This definitely strengthens its title of a cultural capital.
ReplyDeleteI did not think of the Opera house as making France more progressive in its ideals. I think this is so true especially in how it inspired and exposed people to art outside of nobility. Great architecture and art we saw of the more modern was done by more middle class people. France capitalizing on its art and architecture is definitely what makes it a tourist destination.
