Brussels: EU Parliament Blog Post
In the EU Parliament building I noticed how extremely large it was. Although we only saw a small part of it I noticed the expansiveness of it. I noticed that it was very simple and structured. Using grey stone and windows to give a more modern classic look. I could tell that the way they created it was something that was done to give space to all that was done in the building but to also create a space that many professionals and politicians to come in that was impressive to them. Both the interior and exterior was something that was somewhat plain but grand. It was a building that was almost intimidating.
I believe this building is very important for many reasons. It is a building that holds many important political across much of Europe. This building is a place that holds many discussions and is a good neutral ground for these discussions to take place. It is also important historically because it shows how much change has happened to help create a union that would benefit all of Europe. So many of these changes have benefitted many different countries. Having a union of all these countries helps to make all of these Europe countries stronger political powers towards others.
In my opinion this building contributes so much to the city as a cultural capital because Belgium is such a neutral country that it was able to be the capital of the European Union. This is what make Belgium so interesting. They have multiple different languages and cultures that contribute to their country, as well as they have such a neutral political view. These keeps Belgium an important part of the European Union and helps to make the European Union possible. It also continues to show Belgiums relevance to the European Union. This building is part of that history and shows its relevance in the European Union.
Love this Elease! You could definitely use this post in order to answer the last question on the cities final about the multicultural populations in a city and how the cultural capital relies on them. You could talk about how the Parliament building draws in people from all over the world. Your blog post does a good job of discussing how the Parliament building adds to Brussels culturally by showing the strength of Brussels as a city.
ReplyDeleteElease! I really liked how you pointed out that Belgium is such a neutral country and so the EU Parliament being located there is key to being a cultural capital. I liked how you described the building and even though it was fairly plain, you did a good job of creating a good vision of what it looked like!
