Madrid: Toledo Cathedral Blog Post
When we went to the Cathedral today in Toledo I was in awe! It was such a big Cathedral with so many details that I was able to notice better because of El Pratt's scavenger hunt. Some things that I noticed was the rock that we touched that the virgin came down upon. That was cool and interesting that they kept it and was so much of an importance to them. Other things I noticed was the details in every place in the city. There were paintings, stained glass windows, 3D sculptures that combined with the paintings to give the effect of going on forever. I noticed that it was very dark and they only used natural lighting.
I believe this is so important historically and culturally because of the background behind the events that happened there. This Cathedral was the place were the Virgin awarded the cape. This became such a historical story and event that made this Cathedral so important. Another, thing that makes this cathedral so important is because it makes Toledo a city. A Cathedral gave Toledo an important essence to it before Madrid became such a big city. It also helped to create the rich history that Toledo has now. Madrid growing in importance and size helped to create Toledo as a city stay old and unique in its own way. This has helped the Cathedral to stay intact and still fit the overall aesthetic of the city.
I think this Cathedral contributes to this city's status as a cultural capital because it is a visiting point for visitors. It is very beautiful and awe inspiring which makes it so that everyone who visits Toledo and arguably even Spain to visit this Cathedral. This Cathedral is also important because it was a worship house for many centuries. It is beautiful and has religious importance. The art gives the Cathedral and the city of Toledo a sense of importance because of how beautiful this Cathedral is. The Cathedral can be a sense of pride for Toledo because it has things that other towns do not; beautiful art, stained glass windows, a huge space, etc.
I loved reading your post Elease! I also agree that this Cathedral is such a beautiful attraction for many visitors. It brings people of all different cultures into Toledo, making it a strong cultural capital. You also mentioned how it has great religious importance which I believe is so true and it holds so many religious paintings, sculptures, and other art pieces. Great post!
