Stockholm Art: Your Choice Blog Post
For my work of art I actually wanted to do an exhibit. (Hopefully thats okay :) ) This exhibit depicts several different paintings that show bright colors, different abstract art, and Jazz music playing in the back ground. There is canvases with an entire painting with white paint covering the whole thing. There is paintings with more subdued colors and more geometric lines, and paintings with more swirly circular lines. There are paintings with what you could guess are faces, as well as some that are just colors. The best part of this exhibit was the jazz music playing in the background. It gave the exhibit a sense of playfulness and smoothness that helped me to understand the art better.
The different artists and musicians who created this exhibit includes Louis Armstrong (the musician, Ernest Mancoba (one of the artists) and Rachid Johnson the last artist. According to the plaque at the museum each one of these people were renowned and important in their own right. These works of art were done by people who were black and were fighting for things throughout their life to make their work get the attention they deserved. You can see the African influence in their art work because of the bright music and the Jazz music. Africans influence so many things throughout the entire world whether it be music, style, or an artistic trend. This is important because often they do not get the recognition they deserve for all of the things they are doing to influence the rest of the world.
In my opinion this art exhibit helps to contribute to Stockholm being a cultural capital because it helps to show that they are recognizing the talent and contributions that Africans are bringing to the rest of the world. It shows that Sweden is an inclusive and cultural capital because it includes so many different cultures throughout the museum. Having different cultures and different people in a capital city is very important, being accepting of these different cultures and celebrating their differences is even more important. Having both of these things helps to show that Sweden is a good cultural capital.
So awesome Elease! I agree having paintings from people that came from outside of Sweden is a great way to show that it is a cultural capital! They are very accepting of different cultures and allowing other cultures to contribute to the way of life here. Without the talents of other people Stockholm wouldn't be the same!
ReplyDeleteI love how you chose to write about the entire exhibit as a whole instead of just a singular piece! I think this makes so much sense in this case, as the entire exhibit is built of tiny pieces that all come together. I agree with everything you said about how this exhibit shows the cultural acceptance of Sweden! This exhibit highlights the life of the artist and everything he experienced throughout his life.
ReplyDeleteElease, I think it's cool that you chose to write about an exhibit rather than one piece of art. The fact that Sweden chose to make the work of African artists so prominent is a perfect example of why Stockholm is a cultural capital. Like you said, it shows that they are an inclusive community and want to highlight art that comes from outside of their country and culture as well.
ReplyDeleteAwesome post girlie!! I love how you said it contributes to the city's culture because it introduces new ideas and new cultures into the city. I think a city would be really boring if everyone was the same. I also loved the exhibit with the black artists because they do have a different perspective of Sweden than some of the other members of the community, and I think that it is important to see how different people react within the same place.
