Stockholm Woman: Your Choice Blog Post



For my woman of choice I am choosing Agnatha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad.  I chose to do them as a duo because much of what they have done for society is similar.  These woman are in the Band ABBA.  They are world renowned musicians and they have created popular music for people many years ago and now.  I learned a lot of history about them and how they met during a performance and realized how good their voices sounded together.  This contributed to them starting a band both with their two husbands.  They became leaders in fashion and performance.  They are from Sweden.  My reaction to them is that not only do I love their music but also have grown to love how much they contributed to society.  

Their contribution to Sweden is so important because they created a band that became famous worldwide.  Many times this does not happen.  It is also a band that although there are men in it the singers are mainly the girls.  This shows that they were able to make a name for themselves worldwide as a Swedish band with half of them being girls.  This shows how innovative and talented these woman are.  Other things that have helped to change society is they created a cultural reset for the rest of the world.  They have helped contribute to the change in 70's fashion, created a whole movie that is still watched worldwide today based on their music.  They also have changed the way music is produced because of the work they did mixing their voices to create the perfect harmony.  

I believe they have been commemorated well.  These woman are well known throughout the world.  Although their names may not be as well known the band they created is very well known.  Not only do they have a museum in their honor they also have an entire movie showcasing their music.  They still have 33.4 million monthly listeners on Spotify and there was another movie that came out showcasing their music.  They are still producing music as of 2021 and they filmed an entire AI concert that viewers could watch across the world.  They are a well loved band and these woman have helped contribute to the name they made that affected the rest of the world.

    I love your post Elease, the ABBA museum was the coolest thing ever! Learning about Agnatha and Anni-Frid has shown me how important music is to the culture here in Stockholm. The fact that there is an entire museum just for them is amazing and shows how proud they are to have such a famous group come from Sweden!

Amsterdam Woman: Your Choice Blog Post

I want to do my blog post on Bet van Beeran.  This woman was LGBTQ+ and was open about it during Nazis rule in Amsterdam.  This was not accepted in this time but especially not accepted when the Nazis were in Amsterdam.  We learned a lot about her and her contribution of protecting others specifically during the time of the Nazis.  She had a cafe that was a safe place for others, specifically the LGBTQ+ community, but also anyone else who needed protection and a safe place to be who they are.  She would have a owl that would warn others when Nazis were around that she would light.  The people that she protected and helped ended up calling themselves the "Owls."  I loved learning about Bet van Beeran because she was someone that could have only protected herself because of her own persecution from Nazis, however, she decided to be there to help others as well.   I think Bet van Beeran contribution is so important because she allowed for a safe...
