Vienna: The Magic Flute Blog Post (Charlotte Bühler)

For my extra blog post instead of "The Magic Flute" I decided to write about Charlotte Bühler who is a German Child Psychologist.  We visited a building that is a safe haven for children who are not able to have their needs met.  She was the founder of humanistic psychology during her studies and finding.  According to the professors she was studying these children who came to the house and was curious what was helping children to be able to function with good mental health.  She brought positive psychology which is studying what makes someone happy as well as what develops a good life.  She studied the power of making decisions and pushed the importance of caring for a child and that each child deserves love and care.

She is so important to Austria culturally because she helped to create this safe haven for children who needed extra help.  She also helped to fight for these children to get the care they deserved and make it become a standard for Austria.  She is also so culturally important because she discovered positive psychology along with humanistic psychology.  She showed the rest of the world through her studies how important nurturing a child is.  Not only does this psychology help them to become upstanding citizens it also helps them to get the love that each child deserves.  Her psychology helps us as a society to help to raise them to have self confidence, stronger mental health, and overall happier people.

Her contribution was so important for Austria and Vienna as a cultural capital because they were forerunners in treating misplaced children with love and affection.  This helps to show the rest of the world what the standard should be with these children.  Other ways that Charlotte Bühler contributes to Austria being a cultural capital is because her research is so profound and so life changing that it is widespread across the world.  Having this reputation shows that Austria is an educated progressive nation that the rest of the world should follow. This also shows that the programs that she helped develop is so important to helping Austria to be a good country.

  2. This was a great post! I love who you chose to write it about. As someone who wants to work with children one day I love learning about women like this. I think learning about this woman deepens our understanding of Vienna. It shows that there were people in Vienna that cared about the future, which is children. Having people in cities that care about what comes next is super important and my thoughts are that if one person cared then I am sure many others did as well. I love that it was this woman that discovered positive psychology and now it is everywhere. I even took a positive pych class at byu!
